About the
Artist

Born, raised and graduated in Belo Horizonte, today he lives and works in his house surrounded by cerrado forest, in the small town of Carmo do Cajuru, Minas Gerais. His work is an interdisciplinary blend of painting and drawing, in a research that relates different techniques, usually acrylic and pastels on papers.

 

The artist explores the expressive possibilities of his own individual experience as someone who has found a deep bond between himself, the forms of nature, the anonymous simplicity of ordinary life, and the dimension of beauty and ecstatic understanding of true religious experience. André sees nature and the human other not as objects of conquest, but as parts of himself, which as such calls for attention, investigation, integration and acceptance of its absolute condition of mystery. He understands artistic expression as one of the main ways to move towards a new vision of ourselves and the roles we can achieve.

 

In the core of his creation coexists a characteristic gradient that goes from the abstract image, on one side, to more figurative compositions on the other end, but often his work dwells precisely in the coexistence of this transition, showing a peculiar, unique and individual aesthetic expression. In this context, encounters are promoted between ideas and visions, sometimes adjacent, sometimes opposing, that take over his mind: humanity and nature, the banal and the extraordinary, world and transcendence, consciousness and unconsciousness, form and formlessness, Creation and the Sacred, the symbol and the organic form, the individual and the universal.
